Flooding Measures taken at Sandygate

A present-ation was given by Brian George Area South Highway Manager about Flooding and Drainage in Teignbridge. As a result I wrote to him about the flooding in Sandygate that occurred in May. I received a letter from Nick Boulton from the Highway Management stating:-

"As a result of the flooding incident in May Devon County Council Highway Management have worked with the developer and Watts Blake and Bearne in order to improve the drainage in the area of Sandygate Bridge. Works were carried out to install a new piped easement through the hedge and to formalize a second easement which originally had been an existing disused access.

There are highway drainage gullies in this area however, as they outfall into the stream they will not work if the stream is in spate and flooding.
The main cause for the flooding at Sandygate Bridge was the water in the road was trapped by the hedge bank, stopping it from flowing into the adjacent field and then back into the stream. It is our view that the newly installed features will reduce the risk of the flooding reoccurring to an acceptable level and in all but the most extreme conditions will prevent further flooding of the adjacent properties".

Please note a copy of the full letter can be viewed at Kingsteignton Parish Council Office at Rydon Road.

Ros says "Thanks"

Old Forde House was the venue where Teignbridge Liberal Democrat Party hosted Baroness Ros Scott on Friday 3rd October.

The Baroness was on a tour of Devon to campaign for the role of President to the Liberal Democrat Party.

Thanks to everyone who helped out, signed up, wore badges and - most importantly of all - spread the word about the campaign.
We were doing all sorts of filming over the week - plenty has already gone up on the website (with plenty more to come). I'm really pleased to say Paddy agreed to film a few words of endorsement - I hope you enjoy watching the film.
