No Longer a Green and Pleasant Land

The Local Plan has been presented to Teignbridge District Council's Executive before being passed to the Planning Inspector. I felt brow beaten when the local plan was presented and Councillors were asked to agree to green fields being used as possible sites for development. Planners are seeking way to accumulate Community Infrastructure Levy since Devon County Council cannot contribute to New Roads, Sewerage and Services.

2013 will not be easy. For Kingsteignton Councillors It will be a depressing time when we will have to fight against the loss of Penns Mount,Ware Barton and Coombes End green fields to development.

Brussels in May

During April I had an invitation from our MEP to join a party of Councillors from the South West to meet him for a tour of the European Parliament.
I had met Sir Graham Watson previously when Teignbridge Lib Dems hosted a breakfast meeting for him before he continued on to Candy Tiles and other businesses. I had previously tried to get money for Citizens Advice Bureaux nationally.
I also enquired why Teign Estuary did not have EU protection whilst the Exe Estuary had.

Sir Graham's team took us to the EU Commission Building and on to Kitty O'Shea's a Pub Restuarant to meet Sir Graham. We were welcomed with a pre dinner drink. Then a few of us went off to find recommended restuarants for dinner. My party chose an Italian Restaurant. Here two Italian gentlemen entertained us with singing and Guitar music. The Fettucine and red wine were good too!!

Last evening the 9th December Councillors supported our Mayor Beryl Austin at the Annual Civic Carol Service. Our special guests, Mayor Carol Bunday from Newton Abbot and Stephen Purser Chairman of the District Council and his wife Claire also attended.

Reverend Mark conducted the service and readings read by pupils from St Michaels Primary School and Rydon Primary School. Each school gave a performance of their own Christmas rendition to an attentive audience of proud parents. As a governor of Rydon School I felt proud and happy for them and noted how smart they looked in their respective uniforms.

It was a joyous occasion made successful by the dedication of the teachers giving their time in between a very tight curriculum to help the children give a lively performance.

My name is Anne Lonsdale, Teignbridge District Councillor and Kingsteignton Town Councillor. I am a Liberal Democrat Member for Kingsteignton West Ward in South Devon, which comprises the Parishes of Kingsteignton West and Teigngrace.

My committee membership within the District Council includes the Overview & Scrutiny and Development Control Committees. I am also a member of the Licensing Act 2003 Committee and a substitute for the Licensing Sub Committees.

My responsibilities within the Parish Council include Recreation & Footpaths and Community Hall & The Fountain.

The purpose of this site is to try and keep you informed about my role and provide you with information about developments in Teignbridge District Council and our local Ward Kingsteignton West.

Keeping Kingsteignton Clean

On Friday 21st October Teignbridge District Council held a Tourism Conference. I was unable to go but it set me wondering on why should people visit Kingsteignton. Perhaps they wish to see the litter and the dog excrement that is the stigma of the area.

Can anyone tell me who the culprit is who allows his dog to foul our pavements. This week it seems to be in the area of the junction, Broadway Road and Gestridge Road. Help me and the Town Council, Enviroment Department at Teignbridge District Council, the dog warden and our PCSO's to catch the perpetrator and help keep Kingsteignton a nice place to live, work and to Visit. Thank You

My Achievements

I am very proud of my achievements in my communications with MPs, government agencies and local businesses regarding local issues. For example, my communication with:

● MPs in Westminster regarding Post Office Closures - this has resulted in the Exeter Road Post Office remaining open for business.
● Casework in Social Housing to get a fence erected - the fence is now in place.
● Devon Council Council for new street furniture in a bus stop following vandalism.
● Highways Authority - as a result pavements have been made decent for disabled scooters.
● Virridor - have followed up complaints of smells from the landfill site.
● Housing - supporting the homeless to get housed.
● Credit Unions - took part in investigative work which was reported back to Teignbridge Council.
Interview with Chairman of Aserges Group regarding Special Needs in Schools - subsequently a written report was submitted to Devon County Council Special Needs Task Group
My interest with the Citizens Advice bureau continues as I am now a Teignbridge District Councillor Representative which means I am on the Board as a Director. My first meeting will be September 2009.
